Reid All About It

I do finally have a Reid Wayfarer in my possession. After announcing it was coming soon some months back I’ve demonstrably failed to deliver. That being the story of my life we’re going to move on without comment. I’ve now got the bike in the SSGC HQ shed and my team of flying monkeys are right now chained to their typewriters knocking out the review.

Reid were keen for me to pick up the bike from their new store. Yeah, sure fine, one store’s much like another I thought. Except no, this new store is a great big bike barn of a place with bikes as far as the eye could see. (To be fair, the eye could only see as far as the back wall. But that back wall was an unreasonably long way away.)

I’d kind of taken the Reid guys by surprise. When I boldly announced my presence and demanded my bicycle be made ready, poste-haste young man, the reply  was, “Who? Bike review? Wasn’t that months ago?” Yeah, fair call. So I had a wander around the store while they prepared my steed.

While I was there Stephan was busy selling bikes to an entire family. Mumma bear was getting on of these:

Daughter was getting one of these:

That probably looks like the same bike in published form but it actually has 24″ wheels.

The son was getting one of these:

The Reid Harrier (above) has taken some styling cues from the Create range of bikes, which is no bad thing. The Create was probably my fave review bike last year. It won’t suit everyone though, which is why the Harrier is still there, offering a more conservative approach to fixiedom.

The younger son was getting one of these:

Isn’t that the coolest little road bike for little people? And they go smaller too. This one is the 20″ variety:

It’s often hard to get good bikes for small people. I reckon this family probably got change from a grand and everyone was looking stylish on the street when they cycled away.  Well done Reid.

Thanks Barry. You’re right. The world would be much better if people only bought bikes who could afford locally made. Or something handcrafted from Europe. That’ll get rid of a tonne of cyclist who can’t or won’t pay triple digits for a bike with one gear, which will be great. Those guys are so annoying.

I’m going to sell my other cheap Chinese imported goods also. My television, my blender, this laptop, the computer downstairs, my phone, my watch…all that cheap fucking crap all those other fucking sheep bbbaaaahhh own and think make their lives better, I’m going to get rid of it.

      I hope you will too.
